The Privacy of Your Personal Information and Grain Chain

The Grain Chain website is run jointly by National Association of British and Irish Millers (NABIM) and the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB). We take the privacy and security of your personal information very seriously. We will never sell your data to third parties. How we use your information and take care of it is explained here.

What personal information we collect and why:

When you subscribe to our newsletter, the personal information we collect will be your first name, surname, job title and email address to enable Grain Chain to send you the newsletter.

When you complete an order form asking us to send you printed resources, the personal information we collect will be your first name, last name, job title, email address, school/organisation name, address, city and postcode to enable us to send you your order.

When you complete the Contact Us form, the personal information we collect will be your name and email address to enable us to respond to your query.

We may also occasionally use your contact information to ask you for feedback on the Grain Chain website and the resources we produce in order to help improve these for you.

Like most websites, ours uses ‘cookies’ to help us make our website, and your user experience, better. Cookies mean that a website will remember you. They are small text files that sites transfer to your computer/tablet/smartphone and make interacting with a website faster and easier. There are more details in our Cookie Policy.

We will also track the Internet Protocol (IP) address used to connect your computer to the Internet; computer connection information such as browser type and version; and time zone setting, browser plug-in types and versions; operating system; download history, which we sometimes aggregate with similar information from other contacts to improve the navigation and services we provide.

If we wish to use your information for any other purpose we will communicate this with you in advance.

What third parties will be involved:

The Grain Chain uses a third party email platform, Campaign Monitor, to send out the newsletter. The website is hosted for us in the UK by IE Design and when Grain Chain receives your order for printed resources, we use Hallmark Consumer Services to process requests and dispatch the printed resources to you. NABIM and AHDB require all such third parties to treat your personal information as confidential.

How we will keep your information safe:

We ensure that there are appropriate technical controls in place to protect your personal information. Our third party suppliers operate under contracts that cover how they manage personal information and comply with applicable UK Data Protection legislation.The Grain Chain website and your personal information is stored by IE Design on its secure network and cloud environment. IE Design use a company called Pantheon to help them manage the Grain Chain website. Their servers are based in the US Googles main data centre and they are compliant with EU-US privacy shield.

NABIM and AHDB will never sell or release your personal information to any company for mailing or marketing purposes.

How long we will keep your data:

For the Grain Chain newsletter, we will retain your personal information until you choose to unsubscribe from the Grain Chain newsletter using the unsubscribe link in every email we send you.

For the printed resources orders, the personal information captured in order to send you resources is deleted after 6 months.

For the Contact Us form, the personal information captured in order to respond to your queries is deleted after 6 months.

Your Rights:

By law you have certain rights over your personal data that we hold – see the ICO website for guidance on your rights. You have the right to ask us to correct any errors, the right to ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, and the right to object (based on your specific situation) to NABIM or AHDB’s processing, and the right to request erasure.
