This topic enables children to investigate the different food groups that form the Eatwell Plate whilst learning more about the role of food in the diet and the associated health benefits.
 

Objectives for this lesson

* To know and be able to name the five main food groups
* To know and be able to name the nutrients contained in foods
* To be aware that different nutrients have different functions which help to maintain a healthy body
* To understand the meaning of a healthy, balanced diet
* To understand the purpose of food labels and to begin to understand how to read them.

Three lessons of from 1 hour to 1 hour, 15 minutes, or reduce length of lessons 2 and 3 by using part of the content as homework assignments
