Fun with flour

This topic is a perfect way for children to learn more about the grains that make everyday products such as bread, cakes and biscuits and provides an opportunity to get creative with sandwiches and fillings.
 

Objectives for this lesson

* To be aware of some of the foods we eat which are made from flour
* To know that flour is made from wheat
* To know that wheat is a cereal and to be able to name some other cereals
* To be able to follow the instructions on a recipe (with help if necessary)
* To know the basic safety and hygiene rules necessary when cooking
* To select, decide on and make a favourite combination of fillings for a sandwich.

1–2 lesson(s) (60 minutes/45 minutes) choose from making play dough, cooking a pizza

and/or

1 lesson (45 minutes) 'Super sandwiches'.
