Farmhouse Breakfast Week
The annual Farmhouse Breakfast Week (23 – 29 January 2011) campaign is back with a new theme “Shake Up Your Wake Up” to challenge breakfast skippers to shake up their morning routine and start the day with a healthy balanced breakfast, whether it’s at home or when they get to school. Thousands of children regularly skip breakfast every day, yet research shows that by eating a healthy balanced breakfast, pupils’ concentration, mood and energy levels will be improved.
So why not hold a Shake Up Your Wake Up breakfast event at your school and encourage everyone to shake up their morning routine! Invite pupils, parents and teachers to enjoy breakfast at school before lessons begin. You could even start the day with a ten minute workout to really give you a kick start!
Visit www.shakeupyourwakeup.com for ideas on how to get involved and to register your breakfast event. You can also order your FREE event resources online including stickers and posters to help your breakfast event stand out.
The Taste Adventure
Grainchain.com has teamed up with Slow Food UK to deliver The Taste Adventure a hands on activity aimed at four to ten year olds, which encourages children to engage each of their five senses when eating and enjoying food. The young taste adventurers are given a passport at the start of their inspiring journey through the five interactive zones - each focussing one of our five senses.
The Taste Adventure has been present at events throughout 2010 and the next main event will be held at the BBC Good Food Show at Birmingham NEC on the 27 & 28 November 2010.
Latest news about The Taste Adventure will be available on our blog. For more details about the activity please visithttp://www.slowfood.org.uk/Cms/Page/tasteadventure.
Teach Food Technology
Don’t forget that you can still sign up to the Teach Food Technology programme. Spread over three separate days, the programme aims to give teachers whose specialism is not in Food Technology, a solid understanding of the practical skills required to teach the subject at Key Stage 3 level. Packed with expert advice and tips and ideas on how to fit everything into an hour long lesson, the programme is ideal for non-food specialists who are, or will be teaching food technology in school. What could be better than learning your baking skills from a master baker? For more information about what each training day involves and to sign up to the programme, please see www.licencetocook.org.uk/information/teach-food-technology.aspx
Recipe for this half term – cheese straws
Cheese straws are a classic party favourite. During the festive period why don’t you make our easyLicence to Cook recipe. You can also watch our supporting video to make it even easier! They’re a quick snack and perfect for dipping. You could even experiment with different cheeses and flavours; such as feta and olive or cheddar and mustard.
